Whatever my God ordains is right.

All the feels today.  So torn between tremendous celebration (for a loved one) and tremendous grief (for Emily and her family).

The boys are taking an extraordinarily long nap, so I’ve had time to paint, pray, rejoice, weep, and pray some more.  But as I prayed for Emily, I wrestled with God.  Why?  You can cure her!  Why don’t You do it?

No easy answers.

But this hymn, an old friend, came to mind:

Whatever my God ordains is right.

Specifically this stanza:

Whate’er my God ordains is right:
He is my Friend and Father;
He suffers naught to do me harm,
Though many storms may gather,
Now I may know both joy and woe,
Some day I shall see clearly
That He hath loved me dearly.

Specifically these words:

Some day I shall see clearly
That He hath loved me dearly.

Some day, if nothing else, we shall see this clearly — and sufficiently:

That He has loved Emily and her family.

Dearly.
