If Christmas feels out of place this year, if it feels meaningless beneath the garb of cheer, it might mean we’ve accepted the world’s version of Christmas — emptied of Jesus.

“God with us.” It is hell’s terror … the laborer’s strength … “God with us” is the sufferer’s comfort, the balm of his woe, the alleviation of his misery, the sleep which God gives to his beloved … “God with us” is eternity’s sonnet, heaven’s hallelujah, the shout of the glorified, the song of the redeemed.

At the close of 2020, Psalm 131 has been on my heart, mainly as a rebuke to the noisy, fussy heart I kept for most of this year. Praying that God would teach me the lesson of the weaned child that I might keep a quiet, hopeful heart in Him. And praying this reflection is a blessing to you, too. 💛

I wrote this article in April while in lockdown, wanting to give thanks for the women God had used (and continues to use) in my life to nurture my faith. 🙏🏽
